TechPlus 2016 saw a number of aspiring freelancers, gamers, developers, web designers and corporates from different industries in Nigeria come together to showcase their products.

The event saw the keynote speech delivered by the chairperson of The Alliance for Affordable Internet, Omobola Johnson, who addressed the future of connectivity, innovation and commerce in a connected Africa.

Next up was the main plenary, which looked at what it takes to create and sustain a smart and connected city and how technology should be a core component of administration. The speakers included Carl Schrøder, Professor of Strategic Management at IESE Business School in the University of Navarra, Joan Enric Ricart of the Barcelona City Council, Josep Ramon Ferrer, Sub-Saharan General Manager at Uber, Alon Lits, Consumer Marketing General Manager at MTN Nigeria, Richard Iweanoge, and CEO LISNR, Rodney Williams.

Also present at the exhibition stand were the engineers from the University of Lagos behind Project DOVE initiative. The initiative DOVE, which stands for “Designed for Zero Vehicle Emission”, aims to build electric cars for the future.
The project began in 2014 with two mechanical engineering undergraduates, Maduka Smart and Olukoya Olusanya before they sought the help of other students. Unlike the supposed Nigerian made Innoson motors that are only assembled in the country and the parts are sourced from all over the world, DOVE P1 is built from scratch with locally sourced materials.

On another side of the exhibition section was 'My Family Mobile', a virtual mobile network operator that deals in and sells “family-centric technology”. Their product Sense is a pack of unique innovations that detects and analyzes the movement of objects and people within a home. The pack contains sensors named Cookies that can be used to detect everything from temperature, sleep patterns, who is at home, effectiveness of exercise, safety of valuables and presence of intruders amongst other things.

3D printers were also available at the tech event and were displayed by 3D printing servicing company, Joshnelly. The company showcased finished samples created by Makerbot, manufactured by Stratys.

Coscharis Motors also launched the first Jaguar SUV, Jaguar F-Pace at Techplus 2016.

There were a host of other brands present at the event, including Maliyo games, Suregifts and Lenovo.
