Multichoice Nigeria is set launch a pay-per-view (PPV) service in Nigeria. This will mean that Multichoice subscribers in Nigeria will be able to pay to watch a specific on demand.
This announcement by Multichoice's Nigerian subsidiary comes after earlier in 2017, Nigeria's House of Representatives instructed its Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values to investigate Multichoice Nigeria's ‘exorbitant charges’ for its DStv and GOtv packages. One of the contentious issues was Multichoice's refusal to offer a ‘Pay as you Go’ package option to Nigerian subscribers.
Multichoice's Head of Public Relations, Caroline Oghuma, explained at a press briefing that the PPV concept is different from pay-as-you-go.
“Pay TV operation is not like the telecom version where you pay for the amount of airtime you want to use,” said Oghuma.
The PPV option will only be available on specific shows. In such cases, a dedicated channel will appear on DSTV and sub scribes can then pay to view the specific show.
