In just under 4 weeks of being released, the Black Panther movie has crossed $1 billion at world wide box office. The movie achieved this milestone on its second day of opening in Chinese cinemas.

Only four other movies by Marvel Studios have ever passed the $1 billion box office sales milestone. The other four movies are The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: Civil War.

In a statement, Disney said that the over $1 billion in global box office sales is based on their estimate of ticket sales. The Black Panther movie is on its 26th day of release at cinemas worldwide.

Furthermore, according to Disney, with the movie in its opening weekend in China, it has already brought in approximately $22 million on its first day in China.

The movie, which stars Chadwick Boseman in the lead role of T'Challa and The Black Panther, has proved to be quite popular since opening on 16 February 2018, mainly because it changes the "narrative about who we are as a people on both sides of the Atlantic, and what we are capable of, what we can accomplish," as Hannah Beachler, production designer for the Black Panther movie, explained in an interview with iAfrikan.

In the United States the Black Panther movie has already become the 2nd top superhero release of all time with $521 million in box office sales.
