Rera, a Zimbabwean startup that has developed a platform to allow retail consumers to farm their own chickens and save up to 40% from buying poultry produce without having to own the infrastructure of a chicken farm, won first prize at the recently held Seedstars Harare event. Winning Seedstars Harare means that Rera get to participate at the annual Seedstars Summit which will take place in Switzerland during April 2019.

There was also prizes for the Best Vivic Tech startup, a prize won by Vote Agrica, as well as a prize for the Best Learner, won by Justice Today. The 9 technology startups that pitched their solutions on the day had to do so in front of a jury which included Nhena Nyagura of Dandemutande, Ethel Bangwayo of UNDP, Sharon Wekwete of Omidyar Network and Lilian Mbayiwa of Old Mutual.

The annual Seedstars Summit is a week-long training program which gives the selected startups the opportunity to meet the other 65+ Seedstars winners from around the world. Startup founders also get to interact with investors and mentors from around the world at the annual summit. On the final day of the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland, all the participating startups get to pitch in front of an audience of more than 1,000 attendees, with the possibility of winning up to $1 million in equity investment and other prizes.
