Seedstars World (Seedstars), one of the largest startup competitions for emerging markets, will be showcasing some of Afrika's best startups at the fourth edition of its annual Seedstars Africa Summit. The forum will, according to Seedstars, focus on bridging the gap between Afrikan startup ecosystems and connect regional stakeholders to promote technology entrepreneurship as a way to impact people’s lives in Afrika.
“In 2017, we managed to bring together more than 400 attendees, between entrepreneurs, corporates, investors, mentors, government authorities and startup enthusiasts. We organized around 232 one-on-one meetings between startups, mentors and investors and we felt overwhelmed by the positive feedback we had from all attendees. This year we aim to grow and offer a unique disruptive hands-on experience to 500 participants!”, said Claudia Makadristo, Regional Manager for Afrika at Seedstars.
Searching for Afrika's top digital startups
During 2018 and leading up to the Seedstars Africa Summit in December, the team at Seedstars would have visited 19 tech startup ecosystems across the continent. During this process, they trained, mentored and selected what they found to be the best startups in each region. These startups will get an opportunity to showcase what they are about at the year-end event and also have access to potential investors and industry players that could help with their growth.
Seedstars is a Swiss-based group whose mission is to "impact people’s lives in emerging markets through technology and entrepreneurship, with a particular focus on the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN. Seedstars connects stakeholders."
The Summit will include a "Growth Bootcamp" for selected startups. This will be an opportunity for them to meet mentors in fields like growth hacking, inbound marketing, and fundraising preparation. Added to that, there will also be an "Investor Forum" which will see one-on-one meetings between key investors and entrepreneurs.
