As part of celebrating 10 years since Satoshi Nakamoto announced Bitcoin, Hublot, the Swiss watchmaker, is creating Big Bang Meca-10 P2P limited edition watch, available for purchase exclusively online only with Bitcoin. Added to that, each customer's watch will also have the Bitcoin transaction number engraved on the edge of the bezel.
At the time of publishing, the landing page stated that the watch's pre-sale was oversubscribed and not available for sale to residents of any Afrikan country. The watch is selling for the Bitcoin equivalent of $25,000.
"This is the kind of dynamism and innovation that our partners in Asia delight in. It is a visionary approach that fully corresponds to Hublot's vision. Through its partnership with OSL, this first P2P watch allows us to continue to explore future avenues," said Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot.
An ode to 10 years of Bitcoin
Hublot has also said that it will only be making 210 Big Bang Meca-10 P2P timepieces as a reference and ode to the 21 million limit of the number of Bitcoins that will ever be in existence once all of them are mined. The Big Bang Meca-10 P2P was presented on 6 November 2018 in Hong Kong.
The launch of the watch also marks, according to Hublot, the first time that a luxury watchmaker accepts Bitcoin as payment.
