After just 11 days of being released and a few days after crossing the $1 billion mark during its opening weekend, Marvel's Avengers Endgame movie has now crossed the $2 billion cinema ticket sales mark. The Marvel Studios film joins its predecessor, Avengers Infinity War, to become one of only five films to ever cross the $2 billion mark in cinema ticket sales.
The record was helped along by the movies cinema ticket sales in China which were reported to be at $575,8 million.
"With an estimated $2.193 billion through Sunday, the film has now moved past Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.068 billion) and even Titanic ($2.187 billion) to become the No. 2 release of all time behind only Avatar ($2.788 billion). Avengers: Endgame now holds the No. 9 all-time spot domestically, with $621.1 million; and is No. 2 internationally, with $1.572 billion, behind only Avatar ($2.028 billion). Records continue to fall overseas. In China, the film’s top international market, Avengers: Endgame has already become the highest grossing non-local film in history with an estimated $576 million (Rmb3.88Bn) to date. It also recently surpassed Avengers: Infinity War and The Jungle Book (2016) to become the highest grossing Hollywood film in India with $52 million to date. Avengers: Endgame is also the highest all-time industry release in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand (western), Egypt, Ethiopia, Middle East (as a whole), Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, UAE, Turkey (western), Mexico, Colombia, Central America and Paraguay," reads a statement by The Walt Disney Company, owners of Marvel Studios.
The 3 hour long movie which is also an incorporation of many of the preceding Marvel Cinematic Universe movies has also smashed African cinema records. In South Africa, it went on to have the biggest opening weekend ever in ticket sales beating the record held by its predecessor, Avengers Infinity War.
