Farewell to the Champions League… until February
The Champions League group stages are over and the draw for the next round has set up some exciting ties. Neymar will come up against Barcelona for the first time since he left the Nou Camp in 2017 – can he get the better of his old friend Lionel Messi? The current champions, Bayern Munich, will play Lazio.
There have been some big casualties, too. Inter Milan came fourth in Group B with just one win from six games against Real Madrid, Monchengladbach and Shakhtar. That outcome means that they have not participated in the round of 16 since 2011-12!
Meanwhile, Manchester United have dropped to the Europa League. This comes as a surprise after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side beat PSG and RB Leipzig in their opening two games. However, they lost three of their following four fixtures to finish third in the standings and will now face Real Sociedad in the Europa League knockout stages.

Pressure mounts in the Premier League
To the Premier League, where injuries to Liverpool defenders Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez has led to a run of poor results away from home. Jurgen Klopp’s side are still strong, but it is unlikely that they will win the league again so easily.
Similarly, we are yet to see the best of Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side have been the top scorers in each of the last three campaigns but are yet to reach their potential in 2020-21. Will the return of Sergio Aguero change that? Given the quality of his team mates, it’s not too late to rule him out of the race for the Golden Boot.
Could this open the door for Tottenham to win a first title in 60 years? Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min are challenging Sadio Mane and Mo Salah for their crown as the league best attacking duo. Jose Mourinho knows how to be a champion in England – he’s done it on three occasions.
Return of the NBA
There’s even better news as the NBA returns on December 22nd! Last season saw Los Angeles Lakers beat Miami Heat 4-2 in the finals to win their 17th championship thanks to MVP LeBron James. The Lakers are back in action on the opening day of the new NBA season as they take on their local rivals, the Clippers. These are the only two sides in the NBA that share a stadium! At least LeBron won’t have far to travel…Share this via:
