New South African app for job seekers

A new app has been launched in South Africa to try and help address the unemployment problem, especially among youth. The app allows job seekers to upload a micro CV and 15 second video and subsequently matches them to existing job opportunities.

African startups invited to apply

Africa's digital technology startups are being reminded to enter Jack Ma's Africa Netpreneur Prize Initiative for 2019. The call for entries closes on 30 June 2019.

Nigeria's MDaaS Global has raised $1 million in seed funding led by Consonance Investment Managers. The startup provides high-quality, affordable diagnostic services to low- and middle-income sub-Saharan Africans, starting with Nigerian patients who fall within this bracket.

Nigeria's MAX.ng raised $7 million

Nigeria's MAX.ng has raised $7 million in funding to expand its fleet and deploy mobile payments in partnership with Mastercard. The investment round was led by Novastar Ventures and saw notable participation from Japan's Yamaha.

Naspers has invested in SweepSouth

Naspers, through its Naspers Foundry startup investments division, has invested R30 million in South Africa's SweepSouth, an online platform which connects clients to domestic cleaners. This marks the funds first ever investment in a South African startup since being announced in 2018.
